Police in Mississippi say that a mother drowned her 2-year-old son and is now charged with murder.
Ward Calhoun, the sheriff of Lauderdale County, said in a press conference that Adrienne McDevitt had been arrested after officers found her son Kelly McDevitt Jr. dead after they were called to a domestic disturbance.
Adrienne is being held on a $500,000 bond and will be taken to jail as soon as she is freed from the hospital. She is being charged with murder.
At the news conference, Calhoun said that Kelly had been “forcefully drowned” and that when the police arrived, Adrienne was in the house alone with the child.
And Calhoun said, “This is a terrible event for this family and for our community.”
Calhoun said that this case is still being looked into and that it will be sent to a grand jury when it is finished.
At this point, it’s not clear if Adrienne has hired a lawyer or gone to court.
