Wisconsin police say a tip in the middle of July led to an investigation that found what they call a “large-scale” plan to kill deer.
A news report from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says that an investigation was started when a deputy got a tip and called a conservation warden from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Officials say the investigation found a “large-scale” plan to kill deer over the last year that affected about 200 square miles of land in Fond du Lac, Dodge, and Washington Counties.
The suspects in the deer poaching plan are thought to have been after an area roughly bounded by the towns of Campbellsport, Waucousta, Lomira, Theresa, West Bend, and Kewaskum.
At this point, police want to talk to anyone who knows anything about or has seen any of the following:
Hearing gunshots in the middle of the night.
Seeing a strange vehicle that is shining on deer, stopping in the road, or shooting from a car.
Find dead deer with bullet holes on public or private land. Bucks would have had their whole heads cut off, but they would still be whole.
Seeing deer, alive or dead, with wounds that look like they were shot, especially when it’s not deer shooting season.
