COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus police officer and another driver were hospitalized after a crash on the city’s south side Tuesday morning.
According to a public safety dispatcher, the collision occurred around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Parsons Avenue and Williams Road. Both the officer and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to Grant Medical Center, where they were expected to recover, according to Brian Steel, president of FOP Lodge #9.
Steel stated that the officer was on routine patrol and had been dispatched to a domestic violence incident at the time of the crash.
“As you know, our officers face significant dangers, especially when responding to domestic violence calls. You’ve reported on the rise in homicides—these are critical emergencies,” Steel said.
Photos from the crash site show severe damage to both vehicles, with airbags deployed in the police cruiser and the other car.
Authorities have not released details on what led to the crash.
