Two Arrested in Road Rage Incident Involving Tow Truck Driver and Hammer-Wielding Man

Two people were taken to the hospital on Saturday afternoon after what Phoenix police thought was a case of road rage between the driver of a tow truck and the driver of a passenger car who was thought to have a hammer.

A spokesman for the police department, Sgt. Brian Bower said that around 2:20 p.m., officers were called to the area of Interstate 17 and Greenway Road for reports of a serious attack. Bower said that police were told that a fight broke out between the driver of a tow truck and the driver of a passenger car as they drove east on Greenway Road.

“At one point the driver of the car attacked the driver of the tow truck with what is believed to be a hammer as the driver of the tow truck tried to strike the driver of the car with his truck,” said Bower.

Bower said that the two drivers damaged a few close cars that weren’t involved in the fight. As a safety measure, both drivers were taken to the hospital. When they got home, they would be put into jail. Bower didn’t say more about the criminal charges that the drivers would be facing.
