Records show that the guy who was shot and killed on Wednesday afternoon in downtown Orlando during a traffic check was sought for shooting at his former girlfriend earlier in the week.
Michael David Dennis, 29, was stopped by police on Wednesday just before six o’clock in the evening near South Orange Avenue and West Lucerne Circle, according to Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith.
As police officers exited their car, Dennis allegedly pulled a revolver, according to investigators.
Dennis was killed at the site by numerous gunshots from one of the responding cops.
Smith remarked, “You never know who you are stopping.” “Officers were aware that the person in question was wanted on suspicion of attempting murder.”
He claimed that Dennis was wanted on suspicion of attempted murder and severe stalking.
Channel 9 was informed on Thursday by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that Dennis had left after shooting at his ex-girlfriend at her residence on Monday.
According to court documents, Dennis was previously detained in December on suspicion of domestic abuse.
According to the documents, Dennis broke into his ex-girlfriend’s car and apartment as she was hiding behind a chair in a dimly lit section of the living room. After that, she sprinted to her brother’s flat.
She admitted to authorities that she was terrified for her life the entire time.
Court documents show that the State Attorney’s Office dismissed the case on April 8.
A few days later, fresh arrest warrants for Dennis were issued by the Sheriff’s Office.
Smith urged people to “keep our officers and the deceased person’s family in your thoughts and prayers.”
While the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducts an investigation into the incident, the officer who killed Dennis is placed on paid administrative leave. This is how most police shootings go.
After FDLE concludes its probe, OPD will launch its own inquiry.
