Texas Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Brutal Murder of Newlywed Wife

A man in Texas got 40 years in jail for killing his wife brutally, just a few months after they got married.

The Waller County District Attorney’s Office said that Jared James Dicus, 23, was given 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing his 21-year-old wife Anggy Diaz in a brutal way last year. The hearing was over on July 31.

They got married in October 2022, just a few months before the horrible crime.

The Waller County Sheriff’s Office says that Discus’ parents called 911 on January 11, 2023, to report a death on their land in a small cabin behind their home near Magnolia, which is a city about 45 miles northwest of downtown Houston.

When Waller County cops arrived at the scene, they saw a horrible scene. A few days after the body was found, Sheriff Troy Guidry said that he found Diaz dead, with his head cut off and other parts of him missing. It looked like someone stabbed her several times with a kitchen knife.

“Some of the body was cut up, and the house was stained with blood.” “At best, it was a gruesome scene,” Guidry told the press after the murder.

A release says that Dicus was arrested at the spot. When the police showed up, Discus admitted that he had killed his wife.

Authorities caught Dicus and put him in the local jail on a murder charge.

Police did not say why the person was killed, but prosecutors said that “possible mental health issues were raised regarding the Defendant’s competency to stand trial” before the trial.

However, Discus was found to be able after a court-ordered test.

A DWI charge was brought against Dicus two months before he killed his wife. Court records show that Dicus made threats against a police officer and people who worked at the local jail. After breaking windows, he was put in a chair that held him down.

Sheriff Guidry told the press in January that local officers had been called to the same house more than once for reports of domestic violence.

Dicus’ bond was first set at $500,000. But soon after the murder, District Attorney Sean G. Whittmore pushed for a $1M bail. The DA said that Dicus’s latest crime was very bad and that he has a past of violence. A judge in Waller County agreed and raised the bond to $1M.
