A 15-year-old girl died in a car accident in Washington state while surreptitiously delivering food for Doordash so she could buy Christmas presents for her family and friends.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Grace Horn of Oak Harbor lost control of her vehicle, went off the road, and collided with a pole owing to low visibility.
The adolescent allegedly snuck out of a friend’s house without her parents’ knowledge to earn some extra money before the holidays, according to her relatives.
“There is no end; she will do anything for anyone. “She’s always wanted to give to people,” her father, Jacob Horn, told Kiro7.
Grace used her mother’s account to make DoorDash deliveries. Typically, users are requested to confirm their identification by snapping a selfie that matches an on-file driver’s license.
According to Fox12 Oregon, the youngster was driving along Highway 20 when she encountered extremely low visibility and mistakenly went into the opposing lane, colliding with a roadside pole. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
Tributes have been flooding in for the teen, and a memorial is set on Saturday in Oak Harbor, according to a Facebook event page.
The GoFundMe page reads: “This is something no parent should ever have to go through.
The fundraiser, which aims to cover her parents’ burial expenses, has garnered almost $20,000.
Rob Dickinson, a donor, stated on the page that he was driving on Highway 20 just an hour after the accident.
“I was on my way to work at the post office just after 4 a.m.
“Because Highway 20 was shut, I was diverted to Madrona, following the utility truck that was on its way to the site. His flashing lights produced an eerie glare on the misty trees, and I could feel the gravity of the situation while having no understanding wof hat was going on.”
The young adolescent was “always wanting to find a way to ‘fix’ whatever problem there was,” according to the GoFundMe page.
“She was funny, and her laugh was unlike anything you’d ever heard. She was taken too early, full of innocence, and her dreams have become memories for those who were fortunate enough to know her,” it continued.
“Instead of planning for Grace’s Christmas presents being wrapped and opened, it quickly shifted to the intrusive thoughts, the, ‘what ifs,’ the planning of the funeral of your one and only princess.”
According to DoorDash spokesperson Julian Crowley, “This is an unthinkable and horrible tragedy, and our hearts go out to Grace’s parents and all who loved her.”
