New York City, NY: A horrible campaign of cyberbullying against a 17-year-old girl in the Bronx ended when a supposed rival teen killed her in broad daylight on the street, according to police and other law enforcement sources.
Police say that Emery Mizell, the oldest of four children, was stabbed to death in the chest around 2:15 p.m. Thursday on Boynton Avenue near Watson Avenue in the Soundview neighborhood.
Officers quickly arrested a 15-year-old girl who they say attacked her and charged her with murder, manslaughter, and illegal possession of a weapon. We didn’t give out her name because she is a child.
The suspect, who is 15 years old, went to James Monroe High School with Emery, but Emery’s family wasn’t sure what kind of bond the two had.
Police say that Emery and the person they think killed her were in a fight that was still going on.
Police sources said the victim had been receiving a lot of hateful messages on social media before the murder.
My second cousin Emery, Latanya Mizell, said she didn’t know about the bullying that was going on on social media. If it’s true, she said, it would make the tragedy even worse.
Emery was going to be 18 in October, and she was only one month away from finishing. Her family said she was excited about her senior prom.
Laquai Dash, 17, also from the Bronx, was shot and killed when he got involved in a fight on social media between his girlfriend and another woman, cops and the family of the young victim said at the time.
Dash was a young football player who was excited about going to Spain with his senior class. His family says that the other girl’s boyfriend shot him.
