Chicago, IL – A teenager was arrested Wednesday night after a robbery attempt turned violent on the South Side of Chicago, according to police.
The incident took place in the Armour Square neighborhood, near the intersection of Pershing Road and Wentworth Avenue. Around 8:20 p.m., a 60-year-old man was walking when a 17-year-old boy approached him and tried to steal his belongings.
When the victim resisted, a struggle broke out between the two. As the teen fled the scene, he allegedly fired several shots in the man’s direction. Fortunately, none of the bullets hit the victim, and he was unharmed.
The teenager ran into a nearby house after the attempted robbery and gunfire. A Chicago police SWAT team responded quickly and successfully took him into custody later that evening.
Authorities have not released the names of either the victim or the suspect, given the teen’s age. Investigators are continuing to look into the case, and charges are expected to follow.
This incident adds to the growing concerns about youth involvement in violent crime in Chicago. Local officials have been working on strategies to curb gun violence and address the underlying issues contributing to these crimes.
Chicago police remind residents to stay alert, report suspicious activity, and cooperate with law enforcement efforts to keep communities safe.
No further information was immediately available, but updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
