AUBURN, Maine (latestsports) — A violent attack on two teenage sisters left a 16-year-old girl with a gunshot wound and her 17-year-old sister with minor injuries early Wednesday morning, according to Auburn police.
The incident unfolded near Winter and Dennison Streets, where a man and a woman reportedly drove up to the sisters and began attacking the 17-year-old.
During the altercation, the younger sister intervened to protect her sibling, using a pocketknife to stab the male assailant. In response, the 16-year-old was shot in the leg.
Emergency responders transported the 16-year-old to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Her 17-year-old sister was also treated for minor injuries sustained in the attack.
Police said the male suspect fled the scene toward Turner Street before officers arrived.
