Police Say a Man Jumps Off a Bridge in Georgetown County After His Car Crashes

Georgetown County, S.C. — A report from the sheriff’s office says that police in Georgetown County are looking for a man who jumped off a bridge after a car accident on Sunday night.

An official said a driver was in an accident on U.S. Highway 17 going north, then got out of his car and jumped off the east side of the L.H. Siau Memorial Bridge into the Waccamaw River.

The person was seen by police about 300 yards east of the bridge, but they lost sight of him when he went under the water.

There is a relief effort going on with help from the U.S. Coast Guard, Midway Fire Relief, the South Carolina Highway Patrol, and the Georgetown Police Department.
