OAKLAND (latestsports)– A tragic shooting near Jack London Square on New Year’s Eve left one person dead and three others injured, according to Oakland police.
The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. on Tuesday near 2nd and Jackson streets, a location not far from the bustling tourist hub. Police responding to reports of gunfire found one victim at the scene, who was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
Shortly after, authorities received word that three additional gunshot victims had arrived at a local hospital. Tragically, one of those victims succumbed to their injuries, while the other two remained in stable condition, police confirmed.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and detectives are still investigating the events leading up to the shooting. However, early findings suggest that all four victims were injured in the vicinity of 2nd and Jackson streets.
The shooting site is just three blocks from Jack London Square, a popular area known for its restaurants, shops, and waterfront attractions.
Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward as they continue to piece together what happened on the final night of the year.
