A mother from Michigan and her baby were found at a ranch in southern Texas four days after they were reported lost about 1,500 miles away.
The woman and child were found running barefoot at a ranch in Webb County on Saturday, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office.
The woman from Michigan was reported missing on July 3 with her child. According to the sheriff’s office, Border Patrol officers used her state driver’s license to identify her.
They were taken to a safe place and treated at a nearby hospital. These people were then given to the sheriff’s office by the Border Patrol.
On her way to South Padre Island, a town off the southern coast of Texas, the woman told police that she ran out of gas.
Agents from the Border Patrol confirmed that she was the mother who had been reported missing in Wyoming, Michigan, which is south of Grand Rapids.
Vanessa and the baby were checked out at a nearby hospital and then sent back to Michigan to be with their family.
“I thank the United States Border Patrol for their quick response, and I commend my deputies for their efforts in coordinating with the woman’s family to ensure her and her baby’s safety,” Sheriff Martin Cuellar said in a release.
He said that people should “stay alert and report any suspicious activity” because of the case.
