Austin, Texas — A man from Juarez will go to federal prison in both Texas and New Mexico for murder and illegal re-entry, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas said in a press statement.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says that Luis Antonio Talamantes-Romero, 36, from Ciudad Juarez, was caught by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent who found out that he had illegally returned to the U.S. after being deported several times.
In May 2020, Talamantes admitted to the crime.
A 55-year-old woman was killed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in June 2021. Talamantes was charged with her murder.
In November 2019, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Talamantes tried to rob the woman and shot her in the head when she honked her car horn at him.
When Talamantes ran away to San Antonio, ICE caught him and put him in jail.
Twenty years in a federal jail in Texas were given to Talamantes for one count of illegal re-entry. In New Mexico, he will get life in jail plus an extra 26.5 years to run inside of each other.
From what the U.S. Attorney’s Office says, Talamantes’ time in Texas will follow the time he spends in New Mexico.
