Larry Hogan, a Republican, raised more than $3.1 million since he started running for a Senate spot in Maryland on February 9. He announced this on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Hogan’s campaign, the amount of money raised was the most by a Senate candidate in any quarter in the history of the state.
In a statement, Mr. Hogan said, “There is no doubt that we are the financial underdog in a race where we are likely to face either the billionaire trying to buy the election or the candidate of the Democratic machine.”
The former governor of Maryland’s race for the seat held by retired Sen. Ben Cardin, which is very close to being blue, is very important for Republicans’ efforts to take back the Senate.
Rep. David Trone and Angela Alsobrooks, the executive director of Prince George’s County, are the top Democrats running for the spot.
A rich investor named Mr. Trone started the Total Wine & More chain. He has not yet released the first-quarter numbers, which cover the months of January through March. He paid for his own campaign and had already spent more than $23 million by the end of 2023.
She raised $2.1 million in the first three months.
