Deadly Wrong-way Crash on Pennsylvania Turnpike Leaves Motorcyclist Dead, Another Injured

WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a terrible accident that occurred Sunday morning on the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Northeast Extension.

According to a statement from Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were dispatched to the northbound lanes of I-476 mile marker 67 near the Lehigh Valley Tunnel at 9:09 a.m. to investigate a motorcycle crash.

According to the statement, when authorities arrived, they discovered that a 2019 Honda HRV driven by a 24-year-old female from Perth Amboy, NJ, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes and collided with two motorcycles in a group of six, resulting in a deadly crash.

A 50-year-old man from Bristol, Bucks County, who was operating a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle was pronounced dead on the spot.

A 24-year-old male from Bristol, Bucks County, was injured and treated on the spot by Northern Valley Emergency Medical Services (NOVA) before being transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest for treatment.

The driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries.

According to police, traffic moving northbound on the Turnpike was detoured to the Lehigh Valley exit. Traffic entering the Turnpike from State Route 22 was unable to use the northbound lanes.

The situation was cleaned around 1:20 p.m., and all lane restrictions were relaxed.
