On a day meant to be happy, things quickly turned bad when armed thieves shot and killed the groom at his Missouri backyard wedding dinner.
The couple, Manuel and Dulce Gonzalez, got married in the garden of their St. Louis home on Friday in front of about 50 close family and friends. They had been together for over ten years and had two young children together.
Just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department was called to a home in Dutchtown because someone had shot someone.
Police heard from witnesses Police say that two masked shooters came into the party and demanded money from the people there.
Police say that while one of the men went through guests’ bags, another man stood behind the groom and pointed a gun at him.
Police say that a shot was fired at one point, hitting Manuel in the head.
They both ran away on foot. They didn’t get anything from the people they were after.
The bride’s sister, Yaribeth Pena, told FOX 2 Now, “They took nothing, but they took everything from us.”
Manuel was taken to the hospital, but his situation is still very bad.
Their family wrote on a GoFundMe page set up just for them, “We need prayers that he will get through this.”
The family told FOX 2 on Sunday that detectives still hadn’t gathered all the proof or talked to all the witnesses.
“He’s a good dad and my sister’s husband. Peña said, “He works hard.” “He’s just an all-around good person that — I don’t know — he didn’t deserve this.”
As of now, no one has been caught.
