A Man in New York Who is Charged With Hit-and-run That Put a Student in a Coma Reportedly Tried to Hide Evidence

In April, a motorbike accident allegedly left a University at Albany student in a coma. On Tuesday, a man from New York State pleaded not guilty to four counts connected to the accident.

The 25-year-old Austin Breyette from Watervliet is accused of hitting Alexa Kropf, 19, with what police called an “illegal dirt bike” on April 26 while she was out with her friends.

One count of second-degree attack, one count of leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence have been brought against Breyette.

When someone hit and ran over our daughter, Alexa Kopf, her father Jim Kopf, told Fox News Digital in a statement, “We are relieved and grateful to the Albany Police Department for their swift and diligent efforts in apprehending the person responsible.” “From the moment the crime happened, we had full faith in the Albany Police Department’s ability to catch the attacker. We can’t thank them enough for always looking for the truth.

Kropf had two surgeries on her brain to fix the bleeding and growth, her father said. As he told Fox News Digital before, she also had five broken ribs, a fractured hip, two broken bones in her lower right leg, and bruised lungs. Fifty staples were put in her head, and more were put in her leg.

Alexa was in Albany Medical Center for 27 days and is now getting better at a rehab center close to her home.

“Every broken bone is getting better. Kropf gave an update on her daughter’s health and said, “She is still more alert every day.” “Can sit up in bed and a chair.” Since she can’t do any weight-bearing tasks right now, she has to use a wheelchair. “[She] is aware of her surroundings, but she sometimes has trouble expressing herself verbally.”

“Words and sentences don’t always make sense, which is troubling to see,” Kropf said.

A press statement from Albany police said the suspect in the hit-and-run was “driving an illegal dirt bike at a high rate of speed while weaving in and out of groups of people in the roadway” on the 400 block of Hudson Avenue when he hit Kropf.

“While driving at a high rate of speed, the suspect struck the victim and caused her to be thrown in the air, and land in the roadway several feet away from the initial impact,” the police said.

The dirt biker hit Alexa on a one-way street while she was out with friends on Saturday night.

The DA’s office says that Breyette is being held at the Albany County Jail on a $100,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond, or $200,000 partly secured bond.
