Oregon Drug Kingpin Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for Major Narcotics Operation

FORT WAYNE, Oregon – After a long investigation by the DEA, the leader of a drug trafficking ring in Oregon was given a sentence of 97 months in federal jail, which is a little more than eight years.

42-year-old Horacio Luna-Perez, from Hillsboro, was a key member of a group that sold drugs in Portland and Eastern Washington, such as meth, heroin, and fentanyl. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says the group is linked to a drug gang in Mexico.

Because of the investigation, DEA officers found out that Jesus Miramontes-Castaneda, 34, was running a different drug crime ring in Portland and Salem.

In the fall of 2022, Luna-Perez and Miramontes-Castaneda were both caught, along with several other people who were involved in running their drug rings.

In January, Miramontes-Castaneda was given a 78-month sentence in federal jail. 17 other people involved have also pleaded guilty and will spend anywhere from time served to 151 months in federal jail.

Moon-Perez and Miramontes-Castaneda were also given five years of controlled release.

Several local agencies in the Portland metro area and central Oregon helped the DEA with the probe.
