CHARLESTON, S.C. — A 19-year-old man was arrested on Friday in connection with a fight and shooting at the West Ashley Citadel Mall that hurt one person.
Someone from Adams Run named Nathan Mungin is being charged with having a gun while committing a violent crime and three counts of high-level assault and battery.
A little after 4 p.m., police were called to the Citadel Mall to help with a big fight near the food court. During the fight, one shot was fired from a handgun, hitting a youth who was involved in the disturbance but not seriously enough to kill them. A press statement from the Charleston Police Department says that the teen was taken to a nearby hospital.
Charleston Police Chief Chito Walker said, “I’m thankful that no one was seriously hurt and am grateful for how quickly our officers worked to solve this problem.” However, we need to face the scary truth that these senseless and unacceptable actions created. Use of guns to settle disagreements is never a good idea and will never be okay.
Detectives working on the case say the killing was caused by a fight that was going on between several people.
The police say there is no danger to the public.
