South Carolina Gets a $2.4m Grant to Help the Savannah River Site Get Ready for Emergencies

Richland County, South Carolina—
Friday, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) was given a non-competitive grant by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

The grant was given to help the state get ready for emergencies related to DOE and the Savannah River Site.

The job of SCEMD is to provide money for emergency management operations in South Carolina. This includes helping the emergency management divisions in Aiken, Allendale, and Barnwell counties.

Off-site emergency preparedness plans, training, and operations support will be kept up by SCEMD to protect the health and safety of people who live in places where SRS incidents happen.

It’s thought that the grant will be worth $2,407,546 over five years, from July 5, 2024, to June 30, 2029.
