A 6-year-old boy drowned in a pool at a camp in New Jersey, and the death is being looked into.
The kid was at Liberty Lake Day Camp off of Florence Columbus Road in Mansfield Twp. on Monday around 2 p.m. that time.
Andy Pritzkin, the owner and head of the camp, wrote to the families to say that a lifeguard found the boy unconscious in a shallow pool.
The staff pulled the child out of the water right away and started CPR, but the boy was declared dead when they got him to the hospital.
The office of the prosecutor for Burlington County said that an autopsy will be done on Tuesday.
Today was the first day of summer camp. The boy was in the freshman class at the camp, which means he was about to start first or second grade.
Every summer, a lot of kids come to this camp. Many of them are taken there by bus from other places.
“We are heartbroken and truly devastated.” “Our thoughts are with our camper’s family, friends, and loved ones during this very hard time. We are also respecting their privacy at this time,” Pritikin wrote in the letter.
A qualified clinical social worker who only works with kids is there to help campers get through this tough time.
“We care most about the safety and health of our campers and staff.” There are three trained nurses on staff, 25 lifeguards who know how to do first aid, CPR, and AED, and the Mansfield First Aid Squad is right across the street. It is always our goal to do everything we can to keep the campers and workers in our care safe, says Pritkin’s letter.
On Tuesday, everything at the camp was going as planned.
Pritikin turned down an interview request on Tuesday through a publicist. A representative for the camp told Action News, a sister station of WABC-TV, that they are reviewing their safety rules and working with the police.
