The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently said that more and more people are going to the hospital after eating “peace of mind” chocolate bars.
On June 7, the FDA sent out its first warning about Diamond Shruumz, a business that makes “microdosing” chocolate bars and gummies. At that time, six people who had eaten the goods were taken to the hospital.
At least 10 people have been taken to the hospital after eating the goods, according to the FDA. Two more people went to the hospital but did not end up staying there.
“Do not eat, sell, or serve Diamond Shruumz-Brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars,” the FDA website says.
“[The] FDA is working to determine the cause of these illnesses and is considering the appropriate next steps,” it said. “More information will be provided as it becomes available.”
The goods are sold all over the country. On its website, the FDA said that people were hospitalized in Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania. In Arizona, there were four admissions, and in Indiana, there were two.
Officials said that the people who ate the “microdosing” goods had “severe” symptoms.
“People who became ill after eating Diamond Shruumz-brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars reported a variety of severe symptoms including seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting,” the FDA reports.
“Microdosing” is when people take very small amounts of hallucinogens to feel better and be more creative without going on a psychedelic trip. The Diamond Shruumz goods are marked as “micro-dosing,” but the company says that there is no psilocybin in them.
According to Diamond Shruumz’s website, there is no psilocybin, amanita, or any other illegal drugs present, so the experience is safe and fun. “Rest assured, our treats are not only free from psychedelic substances but our carefully crafted ingredients still offer an experience.”
“This allows you to indulge in a uniquely crafted blend designed for your pleasure and peace of mind.”
The goods are being looked into by the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We tried to get Diamond Shruumz to respond, but we didn’t hear back from them.
