A New York jail officer is being looked into for making fun of Georgia prison guards on social media, which is against the law.
A corrections officer from Westchester County, New York, named Sgt. Michael Bourhill is accused of sharing a picture of a group of corrections officers from Georgia with the words “They must serve some good biscuits and gravy at the Georgia Department of Corrections” written above it.
He wrote “Damn!!” above that.
The post eventually caught the eye of people in Westchester County.
“Last week, the Department of Corrections learned about a bad social media post and began a major investigation.” It is against Westchester County Employee policy to post or repost inappropriate pictures. “Employees who break this policy will be officially punished,” a county spokesman told Channel 2 Action News.
There were problems with the post. The Westchester Correction Association said, “Sharing this post is not only unprofessional and inappropriate for any law enforcement supervisor, but it is also deeply racist and demeaning.”
Following some research, Channel 2 Action News found that the picture used in the post is from a 2019 graduation at the Sergeants Academy and was shared on Facebook by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
The New York Post said it tried to get in touch with the corrections officer but neither he nor the union that employs him, Bourhill, returned a call from the paper on Wednesday that asked for comment.
