An officer with the Los Angeles Police Department sustained injuries early on Sunday morning after a man stole her patrol vehicle while she was inside it. The officer was later thrown out of the cruiser after the theft occurred.
According to the agency, the anonymous officer had been working a security detail at the intersection of 12th and Figueroa streets at approximately 3:30 in the morning when a man approached her vehicle and managed to get inside.
“The suspect drove off with the police vehicle, and at some point the officer was removed from the vehicle,” claims the department’s report of the incident, which was published on the social networking platform X. “The officer was ejected.
Before fleeing the site of the accident and crashing on 7th and Figueroa streets, the suspect drove the vehicle to the north of Figueroa and was involved in a collision with another vehicle. KTLA-TV has provided photographs of the scene, which show the police SUV colliding with a pole and suffering extensive damage to its front end.
Additionally, the photos show an overturned bike and scooters lying on the pavement, surrounded by debris. It was reported by the police that the suspect exited the patrol vehicle and made an attempt to flee, but he was eventually caught.
It was reported that the cop was in stable condition after being brought to a hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. After being evaluated at the scene, the suspect was “cleared to be transported to the station for arrest processing,” according to the summary provided by the department.
