A man has been apprehended on Thursday in connection with the discovery of a woman’s remains found inside a bathtub in a Harlem apartment earlier this week, as confirmed by authorities.
Police were dispatched to 2272 Second Ave. on Tuesday following a 911 call for a wellness check. Upon arrival, they encountered an unconscious woman within the apartment’s bathtub, bearing puncture wounds on her left torso and a laceration to her neck.
Identified as 33-year-old Melanie Woods, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Subsequent examination by the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined Woods’ death as a homicide.
Following a thorough investigation, law enforcement arrested Candido Rodriguez, 51, who is believed to be Woods’ former boyfriend, as reported by the New York Post.
Rodriguez faces charges of first-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use, according to official police statements.
