KY. LINCOLN COUNTY — A fundraiser for a woman in Kentucky who just had surgery that changed her life is getting close to its goal.
Lucinda “Cindy” Mullins, a nurse who had worked for a long time, had surgery in December to remove kidney stones. However, she got an infection and had to be put on a respirator. She woke up to a new life, though.
Even though they were able to save her life, she lost blood in her hands and legs, so they had to be cut off.
In December, a GoFundMe page was set up to help Mullins, her high school sweetheart, and their two boys with the costs of the move.
Cindy and her family will have to make some changes to their home so that it can fit Cindy’s needs and her limbs and other adaptive gear. The GoFundMe page set up by Heather Beshears says, “The costs of all of this can be overwhelming.”
Thanks to more than 5,000 donations, more than $300,000 has been raised to help pay for prosthetics, adaptive equipment, and house modifications.
FOX 56 News has already told Cindy’s story. In that interview, she said she is happy with her life and will enjoy every moment, no matter how small.
“A drink of water,” Mullins explained. To shower in a shower. To visit your family. To know you’ll see your kids again. To have that chance again and know that I get to go home with my family is the most important thing to me. I didn’t think I would get that chance.
