80-Year-Old Military Veteran Dies Following Parking Spot Dispute, Police Report

Authorities say a guy from Houston died after being attacked during a fight over a parking spot at a grocery store.

They said in a statement that Earl Hollins, who is 80 years old, was beaten up on December 6 in the parking lot of the Food Town shopping store. After getting seriously hurt, Hollins was taken to a nearby hospital, but he died the next day.

The person who was allegedly attacking, Anthony Ray Boyce, 57, was caught and charged with aggravated assault at first. On Tuesday, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff’s Department said they would talk about whether Boyce’s charges should be upgraded to murder.

The victim was a soldier, according to his family.

When asked about what Hollins did, his family told the local news station KTRK, “What he did wasn’t right.”

She told KTRK, “I said, ‘My god, over a parking spot.'” Elma Hollins-Washington is the victim’s niece. “You were going to hurt my uncle, and now he’s dead. You did all of this over a parking spot,” he said. “You took something great from us, and we will never get over it.”

Hollins was a veteran of the service. His family turned off his life support after the accident turned him brain dead, KTRK reported.

Harris County court records show that Boyce was out on bond and in county jail.
