This next weekend, the hometown hero of Friday is prepared to raise money in a step-by-step manner.

Beginning tomorrow at the state line between Maryland and Pennsylvania, Captain Melissa Bryan will embark on a journey down the Appalachian Trail, which spans 82 miles altogether.

She currently holds a position as a security aid liaison officer at the United States Army Security Aid Command in addition to serving in the Canadian Armed Forces.

The purpose of her hike is to raise funds for Susquehanna Service Canines, a local group that is linked with Keystone Human Services. This organization strives to breed and train canines that may aid those with impairments, including children and adults.

According to the website of Keystone Human Services, the organization’s program currently includes more than 300 dogs that are in various levels of training.
