The sheriff’s office says that a woman from Florida is missing in South Carolina. On Tuesday night, her empty car was found off a dirt road in Allendale County with the keys still inside.
People called Allendale County dispatch on August 13 around 8 p.m. to say that Jessica Rapsys, 27, was missing. They gave them an address on a dirt road by Creek Plantation, which is a private piece of land in Martin that is currently used for horse training, according to the county’s website.
Fox News Digital spoke with Chief Deputy Steven Robinson of the Allendale County Sheriff’s Department. He said it is still unclear why Rapsys was in the Creek Plantation area on Tuesday.
The father of Rapsys, Vid Rapsys, told Fox News Digital that he has no idea for sure why Jessica was in the area on August 13.
The search is being helped by her family in South Carolina. He said that the Allendale Sheriff’s Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division “have been amazing and have been searching nonstop with all possible methods.”
“People in the area have also spread the word and been open to posters and social media “shares.”Family and friends have been calling all the time,” Vid Rapsys said.
Robinson personally went to the scene of Rapsys’ disappearance on the evening of August 13. He said that the area where her car was found is “heavily wooded and swampy,” especially since it has been raining a lot lately.
“The car got stuck on the railroad tracks.” “We told the railroad company CSX to stop all of its trains from going through that area,” Robinson said.
The police also did a basic check of Rapsys’ car, which Robinson said “had no one in or around it.”
The top deputy said that workers at Creek Plantation searched the area on horseback on Tuesday.
“It was dark. He also said, “We needed all the help we could get.”
The sheriff’s office asked for help from nearby counties, such as Hampton County, which sent bloodhounds to the scene. A tracking team from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was sent to the area on Tuesday night.
Robinson said that as of Wednesday morning, two helicopters from the Department of Energy’s aviation unit flew over the area and began grid scans with SLED. On Wednesday, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources also sent out four-wheelers.
The Allendale County website says that the Creek Plantation area is made up of 2,526 “acres of timberlands and open fields used for agriculture.”
Rapsys is said to be a woman who is 27 years old and has blonde hair and brown eyes. She stands about 5 feet 6 inches tall.
