Kingman, Ariz. – Authorities in Mohave County are investigating a disturbing discovery after a woman’s body was found inside a large cardboard box in a remote stretch of the Arizona desert east of Kingman. Officials are now asking for the public’s help as they work to uncover what happened.
According to a statement from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) released on October 3, deputies were called to a desolate area near Interstate 40 on September 5 after a man reported finding what he described as a “suspicious package” on his property.
When detectives arrived, they confirmed that the box contained the body of a woman, later identified through fingerprints as 57-year-old Carolyn Ann Bosher, a transient resident of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Suspicious Discovery in the Desert
The caller told authorities he had been surveying his property when he came across a large cardboard box that seemed out of place in the otherwise barren landscape. Upon closer inspection, he suspected a body might be inside and immediately contacted law enforcement.
“Detectives were called to the scene and confirmed there was a deceased female subject inside the box,” the sheriff’s office said in its official release.
The location, described as a remote desert area several miles east of Kingman, showed no obvious signs of struggle or blood, leading detectives to believe the woman was not killed at the scene but may have been transported there after her death.
Victim Identified as Las Vegas Woman
After processing the scene, investigators collected fingerprints, which helped identify the victim as Carolyn Ann Bosher, 57.
Bosher was known to law enforcement in Nevada and had been arrested in Las Vegas just a week before her death, on August 30, for indecent exposure, according to information shared with MCSO by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
Authorities have not yet determined whether her recent arrest is connected to her death, but investigators are looking into Bosher’s movements between August 30 and September 5.
Possible Sighting Before the Discovery
Adding to the mystery, another witness told detectives he had seen a vehicle parked in the area the night before the box was found.
The man reported noticing that the trunk of the vehicle was open, but he was unable to provide a description of the car or its occupants because “it was dark outside,” according to the MCSO statement.
Investigators believe this sighting could be crucial in tracing how the box ended up in the desert. They are reviewing nearby surveillance cameras and working with Nevada authorities to see whether Bosher had any known associates or recent travel companions.

Investigation Ongoing
At this stage, detectives have not released Bosher’s cause of death, pending results from the Medical Examiner’s Office. However, there are no immediate indications that she was killed at the dump site, officials said.
The MCSO continues to coordinate with LVMPD’s homicide unit, piecing together timelines and reviewing case records that might help explain how a Las Vegas woman ended up dead more than 100 miles away in rural Arizona.
Authorities have not identified any suspects and are appealing to the public for information that could move the case forward.
“Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office at 928-753-0753 and reference case DR# 25-033587,” the agency said.
A Grim Mystery in the Desert
The discovery has shocked residents of Kingman and neighboring communities, many of whom say the desert area east of the city is known for being quiet and isolated — not a place where you’d expect to find evidence of such a grim crime.
Local officials have urged people to remain alert while the investigation continues.
As of Monday, no arrests have been made, and detectives say they are pursuing “multiple leads” to determine how Bosher’s body ended up in the desert and whether foul play was involved.
