Woman Accused of Killing Ex-Husband, Dropping His Body at Hospital

A 27-year-old Alabama woman has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing her ex-husband, then driving his body to a hospital.

Genesis P. Tanksley was arrested on New Year’s Day following the death of her ex-husband, 37-year-old Lazarus Tanksley. According to the Mobile Police Department, officers responded to a local hospital around 1 a.m. on January 1 after being notified of a deceased man brought in by a woman driving a silver Lexus SUV.

Hospital staff identified the woman as a Black female with braided hair tipped in red. Police later confirmed her identity as Genesis Tanksley.

Investigation Leads to Arrest

After identifying the victim, officers went to his residence on St. Stephens Road in Mobile, where they met a male witness who claimed to have been present during the incident. The witness reported helping a woman load Lazarus’s body into the Lexus SUV but did not know her name. He described her as the victim’s ex-wife, matching Genesis’s description.

Another witness came forward later that morning, telling authorities she was at the scene during the shooting. According to her account, Genesis and Lazarus were arguing when a gunshot was fired. The witness said she fled the scene on foot and had not spoken to Genesis since.

Authorities arrested Genesis Tanksley later that day. She is currently being held without bond at the Mobile County Jail.

History of Domestic Violence

This is not the first time Genesis and Lazarus Tanksley were involved in a violent altercation. In October 2024, both were arrested at the same residence following a domestic violence incident. Police records show multiple calls to the St. Stephens Road address over time.

During the October incident, Genesis reportedly fled the scene in the same silver Lexus SUV, leading officers on a 30-minute chase before being taken into custody.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation into the fatal shooting is ongoing. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the argument and shooting that led to Lazarus’s death.

This tragic case highlights a history of tension between the former couple, raising questions about missed opportunities to prevent the violence from escalating.
