Virginia Woman Arrested in New York After High-Speed Chase Following 'Heinous' Triple Homicide

Police say that a woman from Virginia who was wanted for killing three of her friends was caught in New York on Thursday after a high-speed chase.

Two men and a woman were killed at their Spotsylvania County home on Tuesday, and Alyssa Jane Venable, 23, was on the run. Police in Spotsylvania County say all three were found with injuries consistent with direct force trauma. They also say the crimes were “heinous.”

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said Venable was caught on I-86 in Steuben County by the U.S. Marshals Service and the New York State Police after she refused to stop for police.

Around 5:45 p.m. Thursday, New York State police saw a gray 2009 Honda Civic that looked like the one Venable was known to drive. They tried to stop her, but she wouldn’t stop, which started a 100 mph chase.

Venable was caught by police using a gadget that deflated her tires, which caused her car to crash and let police catch her. As a safety measure, she was taken to a nearby hospital. Homicide officers had told people that Venable was dangerous and thought to be armed.

The New York State Police are working on a runaway warrant for Venable and are making plans to extradite him.

It was said that Venable had killed three people in the second degree and used a gun while committing a crime.

At about 10 p.m. Tuesday, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office was called to the home in the 10500 block of White Street Court to make sure everyone was okay. That’s when they found the bodies of Robert John McGuire, 77, Gregory Scott Powell, 60, and Carol Anne Reese, 65. The house is about 60 miles south of Washington, DC.

It’s not clear if Venable is connected to the victims or what their connection is.

NBC Washington heard from neighbors that the people who lived there were quiet and didn’t talk to anyone else. People there said they thought Venable had moved in about a month ago.

As reported by NBC, Venable was charged with assault and abuse last month. Even though the sheriff’s office hasn’t said if that event has anything to do with the triple murder on Tuesday night, it will be looked into.
