A young mother was hit and killed on her e-bike. The driver did not stop and has been named.
Derbyshire Police said that Alana Armstrong, 25, was riding on the back of the bike on Tuesday night after a dark-colored 4×4 car had been following her.
Two people were riding a bike when the car hit one of them. The driver and passenger fell off, and the car drove away without stopping. On Batley Lane in Pleasley, Ms. Armstrong, who was from Tibshelf, was declared dead at the scene.
A guy in his 20s who was riding the bike was taken to the hospital and had his leg cut off below the knee.
CSP Dave Kirby said, “Alana was only 25 years old and had a six-year-old son.”
“Both she and her little boy and her whole family will never get to see her or hug her or spend Christmas or any other holiday with her again.” At this time, my thoughts are with them, as are the thoughts of the whole force and society.
Police are looking into a murder and want to know about a dark-colored Land Rover Discovery that was seen in the Pleasley area before 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The type is thought to be from 2004 to 2009.
Police say it was last seen on Rowthorne Lane, just before it turned right onto the A617 going towards New Houghton. A man is thought to have been driving and a woman is thought to have been in the back seat.
A guy and a woman in their 30s from the Skegby area of Nottinghamshire were arrested earlier in connection with the crime. They were let go without being charged and are not part of the probe.
“Since Tuesday, a team of detectives has been working nonstop to search the scene where Alana was killed, talk to people in their homes, and look through CCTV footage from the area,” Ch Supt Kirby said.
“We no longer need to look into the case of two people who were arrested in connection with the incident. They have been released without charge.”
Also, he said, “The public has already given us a lot of information, and I want to thank everyone who has come forward to help our investigation.” But I know there is more information out there, and someone knows who is guilty.
“We need to hear from anyone who knows those two people and has seen a Land Rover Discovery that might have damage to its front end, or who knows of a vehicle that fits that description that may have been fixed or had parts replaced recently.”
“We also want to talk to anyone who might have CCTV, especially on the A617 from this junction going towards New Houghton.”
“Finally, I need to go back to Alana.” As a father, a police officer, and a part of the community, I’m heartbroken for her little boy, her family, and her friends. We will do everything we can to find the people who did this.
