A U.S. bomber from the 50s is discovered intact under the Pacific Ocean. This is not the only thing researchers have found under water, a submarine from 1915 was also found but not in the same appearance.

It is remarkable the unknown of the underwater world

, you can either find some fish or some American military bombers and submarines.

This is a fascinating discovery that will lead us to know more about the history of the time they were sunk. So, with no further ado, let’s learn what happened to these military vehicles.

The first discovery: the submarine

Some American scientists found in the Pacific Ocean a submarine, but not just a regular submarine. The USS F-1 submarine was one of the first submarines in the U.S.A. Navy which sank on the 17th of December of 1917 while they were sailing along with two other submarines – the San Pedro (F-2) and the San Diego (F-3) – on a 42 hours mission.

At some point of the training, the weather was so foggy that it was impossible to see the other submarines, so there was a collision between the San Diego and the USS F-1. This was a devastating event because in a matter of seconds the submarine sank and 19 people died.

The second discovery: the bomber

After finding the submarine, the American scientists discovered the

Grumman TBF Avenger bomber

. This bomber was used by the US.A. Navy in the Second World War and after.

Contrary to the submarine and most discoveries of vehicles or objects that sank for many years, the bomber was found intact and all the crew members survived the crash into the ocean in 1950.

An interesting fact about this bomber was the fact that people thought it was bad luck because the bomber had the number 13 on it. However, this was just the number of the squadron. There are superstitious people everywhere, isn’t there?

Is it really important to take these old vehicles out of the ocean?

Of course it is! Thanks to these discoveries we can learn a lot about the time and history of the period the submarine and the bomber sank. Also, it is important for the scientific field.

First of all, these are vehicles so that means some kind of technology was used. This is useful to know how they were built and if they really world underwater. This data can be used for future vehicle manufacturing, for example.

It is also a symbol for the military men who served their country and for the ones who lost their lives. It could be seen as an homage for those who we lost and the ones who survived to remind them and what they did for the U.S.A.

What’s more, these discoveries have an impact on the present time. Modern military strategies are used based on previous ones. So, the fact that they can learn more about the risks of the sea will let them improve their security protocols on their different operations.

What’s next?

Well, The American scientist in charge of these discoveries expects the sunk submarine and bomber to be helpful for future underwater investigations. The underwater world is like the universe, we don’t know what’s under there.

The more research like this is done, the richer knowledge we will have because we can get a lot of information from ancient objects or vehicles sunk underwater. You may not see the importance now, but I’m sure with more future discoveries you will be aware of this. Every discovery matters since that is a source of information for future studies in many fields.
