Texas’s Freestone County (KWTX) After a tornado struck their houses on Christmas Eve, a family in Freestone County is still getting their bearings.
Ginny Folsom and her family had just returned from church and were enjoying the holiday when the storm tore through.
When the Folsoms realized the weather outside was getting worse during the celebration, they gathered in their tornado-safe room.
“We heard the glass breaking a second after we closed that closet door,” Folsom added.
Then it was done. We thought it was a broken window as we came out, but it wasn’t. The porch was gone, and two-thirds of that metal roof had just pulled back.
Other members of the Folsom family reside in another tornado-affected home a short stroll down the street.
Winds so powerful that the house was lifted off its foundation and transported several feet damaged their more than century-old home.
In fact, this momentous occasion occurred on the anniversary of Ginny Folsom and her husband’s first date.
shortly stating that this was our first date sixty years ago, when everything began to change, we were about to share the photos shortly before the storm arrived, said Folsom.
Help from friends, family, and neighbors—some of whom they had never ever met—arrived as soon as the skies cleared.
According to Folsom, it totally eliminated the fear.
It was really comforting and heartwarming, really.
To cover costs that insurance would not cover, family friends have created a GoFundMe page.
