WYOMING COUNTY, WV – Two men were arrested following a traffic stop in Brier Creek that led to the recovery of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cash, according to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.
Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Discovery
On Saturday, October 4, 2025, around 11:50 p.m., Corporal Matthew Perry of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department observed a white SUV driving suspiciously at a slow speed. When Perry attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver attempted to evade law enforcement by turning off the lights and driving without illumination.
Driver Identified and Search Uncovers Drugs
After the vehicle was stopped, the driver was identified as Daniel Powell. During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered a hypodermic needle on the front floorboard. This led to a further search, which uncovered two Suboxone strips in Powell’s wallet. Powell did not have a valid prescription for the medication.
In a nearby area of disturbed brush, deputies found an orange beanie, a large amount of cash, and a bag containing drugs. The search resulted in the recovery of approximately $7,111 in cash, 11 grams of methamphetamine, 6 grams of fentanyl, and the three Suboxone strips.
Suspect Flees and Is Captured with K-9 Help
Powell initially denied having any passengers, but later admitted that Landon Kingsley, a second man, had fled the scene on foot. A K-9 unit assisted in locating Kingsley a short time later, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Charges Filed Against Both Men
Landon Kingsley was charged with possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, drug conspiracy, and for outstanding warrants from Mercer and McDowell counties.
Daniel Powell was charged with drug conspiracy, fleeing in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and obstructing law enforcement.
The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department led the investigation, continuing to work on drug-related cases in the region.
