The mother of the child was charged with two felonies of endangering the safety of children.
Over the weekend, a car hit a baby in Pennsylvania on a state highway. Police say the mother of the child left two kids alone in a motel room.
Police in Jefferson Hills say that Shawnae Galberth was arrested and charged with two counts of crime endangering the welfare of children after her 3-year-old son was hit by a car near State Route 51 outside of a motel.
The next day, the police department wrote on Facebook that the child “walked out of the Econo Lodge and into the northbound lanes of Route 51.” They also said that the driver of the car was “cooperating with the investigation” and stayed at the scene.
“The child was transported by EMS to an area hospital in critical condition,” cops said. “The roadway was closed for an extended period and the SHACOG Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist.”
Later, the police found out that Galberth had left the 3-year-old and another 2-year-old child alone before they “exited the room and subsequently walked along” the highway.
She was taken to the Allegheny County Jail after that.
Three months ago, the Visalia Police Department in California arrested two people on multiple charges, including child abuse, after finding four children living in what the police called “horrendous” conditions.
When police arrived at the hospital, they saw that a 52-year-old woman was “extremely emaciated and in medical distress.” They later found out that her adult daughter was taking care of her.
Detectives went to the house and found four kids living there with Gregory Paul Chavez, 61, Cecilia Colleen Rodriguez, 34, and Gregory Paul Chavez, 61. There were “bugs, feces, and trash scattered throughout the home.”
Then, Child Welfare Services, Adult Protective Services, and Code Enforcement were called to the house. Child Welfare Services took the kids into their care, and the adults were charged with elder abuse, child neglect, and child abuse.
