Three Arrested After Over 100 Dead Animals Found in Old Saybrook Homes

Old Saybrook, CTThree people have been arrested after over 100 dead animals were discovered in two Old Saybrook homes. Authorities reported finding dozens of dead rabbits, chickens, ducks, and cats, along with several animals living in inhumane conditions.

Details of the Discovery

In January 2025, Old Saybrook Police discovered more than 70 dead animals in a home on River Street. According to the arrest warrant, 105 dead animals were found in total, including:

  • 77 rabbits
  • 23 chickens
  • 1 skunk
  • 1 squirrel
  • 2 cats
  • 1 dog

Investigators reported severe hoarding conditions, including trash nearly knee-deep, damaging floors and walls inside the residence. The home lacked food, water, and power.

Suspects and Conditions

The investigation initially began in September 2024 when authorities attempted to contact the Crouses and Bebe Soho. According to the warrant, Jennifer Crouse, John Crouse, and Bebe Soho were in the process of being evicted from their home for unpaid rent.

The warrant stated that the Crouses were not living at the home much, and Soho had them come to her apartment, where they were also evicted.

After several follow-up inspections in January, warrants for their arrests were signed.

Police Locate Suspects in Rhode Island

The investigation took another turn when police followed a tip and located the suspects in Rhode Island over the weekend. They were then arrested and brought back to Old Saybrook.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

Jennifer Crouse, John Crouse, and Bebe Soho face charges including cruelty to animals and criminal mischief. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to examine the conditions under which the animals were found.
