Marathon County, Wisconsin. – The remains of Cassandra Ayon, who went missing on October 3, 2020, have been recovered in Marathon County.
According to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice (WisDOJ), Ayon’s body was discovered on private property near County Highway P and Abe Lincoln Road in the Town of Brighton on November 30.
Attorney General Josh Kaul expressed compassion for Ayon’s family and thanked everyone who worked tirelessly on the case.
Clark County District Attorney Melissa Inlow stated that the discovery gives closure. “We hope the discovery of her remains lends a sense of finality to her family and everyone who mourns her,” she told reporters.

In September 2022, Jesus Contreras-Perez of Mosinee, WI was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole for Ayon’s murder. According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, he was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide, concealing a corpse, and stalking inflicting bodily damage.
According to the news release, Ayon’s remains were recovered through a combined operation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, local sheriff’s offices, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, and other organizations.
This discovery brings an end to a four-year search and provides some closure for those who mourn Ayon’s untimely death.
