A frozen nondairy treat sold in eight states has been recalled because of worries that an ingredient that wasn’t listed could cause allergic reactions that could be life-threatening.
People were warned on Tuesday that some units of the Full Circle Market brand “Coconut Milk Chocolate Almond Crunch Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert” have cashews that aren’t mentioned on the label. The recall notice was posted on the website of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
A company called G.S. Gelato & Desserts, Inc. said that the recall only affects desserts that were shipped between April 18 and July 11 and were sold in stores in New York, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island in 1-pint or 16-ounce paper cartons.
The concerned item has the UPC number “0 36800 46964 8,” the lot number “041624L2,” and the date “10/15/2025” written on the label, which means it should be used by that date. The dessert’s lid has a picture of Nature’s Promise brand “Cashewmilk Chocolate Almond Crunch Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert.” One of the shops that sold the dessert noticed that the lid and carton showed two different products and told the company about it. This led to the recall.
“The firm conducted an investigation which determined that a single lot of pints of cashew milk product was dispensed into the Full Circle Market brand Coconutmilk pints during the manufacturing process,” the notice says.
The company said that as of Tuesday, no illnesses had been linked to the recall.
Another recall like this one happened last week for Van Leeuwen brand “Vegan Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll” ice cream after a customer with a peanut allergy said they had a bad reaction after eating the dessert.
“The recall was initiated after it was discovered that eight pints containing the peanut allergen were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts,” the Van Leeuwen recall notice said.
People with peanut or cashew allergies can get anaphylaxis if they eat foods that don’t list those ingredients. This may not bother most people, but it can be very dangerous for them.
Anaphylaxis is a serious illness that needs medical help right away. Symptoms include a swollen throat, trouble breathing, a sudden drop in blood pressure, and loss of awareness.
Rash, hives, itching, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps are some other signs of dangerous allergic reactions.
A woman died after eating Florentine cookies from the Connecticut-based Northeastern grocery chain Stew Leonard’s earlier this year. The cookies were recalled because they were found to contain peanuts that weren’t labeled.
The head of the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, Bryan T. Cafferelli, said in a statement at the time, “This is a heartbreaking tragedy that should never have happened.” “Our condolences go out to the family affected by this incident.”
