Someone hit a kid in Ohio last week, and his family says the damage to his brain “is not survivable.”
A person in a pick-up truck hit 15-year-old Aspen Dylan Runnels while he was crossing Bethany Road between Lakota East’s rookie campus and the high school, as reported by News Center 7.
Runnels’ mother, Christina Alcorn, wrote on social media on Tuesday that an MRI showed what was wrong with her son.
There was news about the MRI, she wrote on Facebook. “Unfortunately, Aspen has a terrible brain injury that can’t be fixed.” Because we are sending his organs, it will take a few days to officially say that he has died of brain death, but is no longer alive.
A crash report showed that Runnels was hit by a woman driving a 2007 GMC Sierra who did not give way to him.
At the time of the crash, deputies think she was going 30 mph in a 20 mph school zone.
The woman told the police that she was looking away from the road to fix her baby’s pacifier when the accident happened.
Hill, who is on the Lakota East Color Guard with Runnels, said, “He never stops dancing.”
Anna Reid, who was on the same team, said Runnel’s was “really energetic.”
His coach and coworkers praised how hard he worked, how creative he was, and how kind he was.
“He’s such a light to the guard, and that light keeps shining even though he’s not here right now,” Hill said.
