That’s right, the American flag is both a sign of freedom and of America itself. One Alaskan national park, on the other hand, is said to have forbidden raising the American flag on its grounds. People who work for Denali National Park in Alaska are said to have told construction teams not to fly an American flag there.
Now, people in the US want answers. In a very strong message, Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan asked National Park Service Director Charles Sams to explain himself. He wants to know why Park Rangers at Denali National Park told the construction teams to take down the flag. All of this was worse because it happened right before Memorial Day, a holiday that remembers the people who have died in service.
For now, I’m using “allegedly” because I know for sure what happened. A local newspaper called The Alaska Watchman talked to an unnamed building worker at the park about what happened. They said that people in charge told them to take down the flag. But for now, it’s just their word.
The building worker had an American flag on their car, Sullivan wrote in his letter. But the government told them to take it down. With “reasons that remain unclear, someone at the National Park Service (NPS) caused the construction crew to remove the American flag.” The event made the politician mad.
“This is a terrible thing.” “Especially in the days before Memorial Day, our most solemn national holiday, when Americans wear our flag to honor those who died while serving our country,” Sullivan wrote. “The American flag, especially on Memorial Day weekend, should be celebrated, not censored by federal government employees.”
The Alaskan senator also said that raising the American flag on public land is not against the law. The whole thing seems strange to him because public parks are there for “the enjoyment of American citizens.” Sullivan wants the event to be looked into. He aims to “ensure an incident like this does not happen again in American national parks.”
As a protest, people in Alaska sent a “patriotic convoy with flags” from Fairbanks, Alaska, to Denali National Park after the news came out. I’m not sure how many people went to the convoy, but there were at least a dozen interesting people there. Many people are likely very angry about this news because they see the American flag as a sign of American freedom and pride.
