San Antonio, TX – A 2-year-old girl was found roaming a Texas neighborhood alone, wearing only a soiled diaper and described as extremely dirty by neighbors. Her parents, Alexandrea Prewett, 33, and Benito Lopez, 35, now face felony charges for child endangerment after their toddler was discovered near a busy street, leading to their arrests.
Child Found Alone Near Busy Street
The incident occurred on Sunday, when neighbors called to report the couple’s toddler wandering near a busy street and later entering a nearby home. When Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found the girl sitting on the sidewalk, unattended, and wearing a heavily soiled diaper.
“The little girl was extremely dirty, unkempt, and in distress,” the police statement said.
Unsanitary Conditions Found at Home
Upon entering the home where the child lived with her parents, deputies discovered what they described as “filthy hoarding conditions.” Prewett was inside and confirmed that she was the child’s mother. She was detained while authorities contacted Lopez, who later returned home and was also arrested.
Parents Face Child Endangerment Charges
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office stated that while the 2-year-old was outside, the temperature exceeded 100 degrees Fahrenheit, making the situation even more dangerous for the child. Both Prewett and Lopez were booked on charges of child endangerment.
After being examined by first responders, the little girl was taken to the hospital. Child Protective Services was notified, but it is unclear who currently has custody of the child.
Parents Released on Bond
Prewett and Lopez posted bond and were released the same day they were arrested. The case has drawn significant attention, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
