San Antonio, TX – A tragic incident shook a Texas neighborhood early Wednesday morning when Wilma Jamitza Medina, 50, allegedly stabbed her 9-year-old son, David Ogbevbon Ehanire-Medina, multiple times in the neck and chest while he lay in his bed. Medina has been charged with capital murder of a person under 10 years old.
Authorities confirmed the boy died shortly after being rushed to a hospital, and the case has left the community and law enforcement deeply affected.
Early Morning Attack
Police received a call at approximately 5 a.m. on Sept. 3 from a home in the 8200 block of Zodiac Drive, near San Antonio, Texas. Officers responding to the scene found the boy unresponsive in his bed with visible stab wounds.
Detective Sergeant David Faust told reporters,
“I don’t think that anything could have prepared our first responders of the city for what they saw. It was devastating, and it was very, very, very rough on them. What they found when they arrived is that a father was trying to prevent the mother of the child from getting back to him after she had potentially stabbed him multiple times.”
Police Chief Johnny Siemens also remarked on the severity of the crime:
“Crimes like this shock your conscience, rock you to your core. You can’t unsee some of the stuff that you see, and you can’t understand why it would happen.”
Father’s Struggle to Save Son
When officers arrived, the boy’s father, an officer with the China Grove Police Department, was reportedly holding onto Medina’s legs while she lay on the bed with a bloodstained shirt, attempting to prevent further harm. The child had already suffered multiple stab wounds.
As officers tried to secure the home, Medina reportedly grabbed a knife and stabbed herself in the leg, yelling:
“I cannot live without him” and “let me die.”
The father later explained that after returning from a night shift, he had heard a scream from his son’s bedroom. The door was locked, so he forced it open and discovered Medina holding their son with one arm while she held a knife in the other. During the struggle, Medina allegedly stabbed herself in the chest and told her husband,
“This is what you want.”
Statements and Alleged Mental State
Following her hospitalization, Medina spoke to investigators, claiming she was being “followed” and that people were trying to enter the house. She also reportedly said she believed her son was being harmed at school, stating:
“There’s no going back.”
Authorities allege that in a later call with family members, Medina referred to herself as “trash” in Spanish and expressed shame over her actions.
Investigators are reviewing her statements as part of ongoing inquiries into the circumstances and mental health factors leading to the tragedy.
Charges and Custody
Wilma Jamitza Medina has been booked into Bexar County Jail and is being held on $600,000 bond. She faces capital murder charges in the death of her 9-year-old son. Court dates have not been immediately scheduled.
Authorities have described the attack as an isolated incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
Community Reaction
The community has been left in shock over the brutal nature of the incident. Police officials emphasized the emotional toll on first responders and urged families to watch for warning signs of domestic distress or mental health crises.
Detective Faust noted the difficulty faced by officers witnessing the scene, while community leaders continue to call for support and awareness for families affected by domestic violence.
