Houston, TX – A Texas man in his 20s was fatally shot just moments after speaking to his girlfriend on FaceTime while waiting for a bus in Independence Heights, Houston. The Houston Police Department is now seeking the public’s help as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic shooting.
FaceTime Call Ends Abruptly
The shooting took place around 9 p.m. on Saturday near East 34th Street and North Main Street, where the victim was conversing with his girlfriend on FaceTime while waiting for the bus. During their call, the girlfriend heard the alleged victim talking to an unknown man who approached him. The conversation initially appeared friendly, but things took a dark turn when the victim suddenly ran off, and the phone call went silent.
Girlfriend Tracks Phone and Finds Victim
Worried by the sudden silence, the girlfriend contacted police, stating her concern for her boyfriend. Authorities say she was able to track his phone and first located it on the ground. Tragically, she then found his lifeless body in a nearby grassy area. Police confirmed that he died from his injuries before emergency responders could arrive.
Victim Recently Started Working at Local Barbershop
While the victim’s identity has not yet been released, police confirmed he had recently started working at Jackson’s Barbershop, a well-known establishment in the same neighborhood where he was killed. Employees at the barbershop praised the victim, describing him as a positive, hard-working individual.
