Texas Man Arrested for Killing Friend in ‘Turn-Based Shooting’ Incident

Spring, Texas – A 37-year-old Texas man has been arrested for murder after allegedly killing his 34-year-old friend in a bizarre incident where the two men took turns shooting each other in the head while wearing a Kevlar helmet.

Murder Charges Filed After Fatal Shooting

Sean Odonnell was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of murder in the shooting death of Aaron Prout, who was fatally wounded earlier this month.

Authorities said Prout, a UK citizen residing in Harris County, was found shot in the head at Odonnell’s home on Pennington Hills Drive in Spring, Texas, around 225 miles southeast of Dallas.

Initially Thought to Be Suicide

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office originally investigated the incident as a possible suicide, as Prout’s gunshot wound appeared self-inflicted. However, detectives uncovered inconsistent details during their investigation, prompting them to reexamine the circumstances.

“Incident initially came in as a possible suicide, but things weren’t adding up,” the sheriff’s office explained. “With thorough follow-up investigation, the truth was ultimately revealed.”

Details of the ‘Turn-Based Shooting’

According to investigators, Odonnell and Prout were allegedly taking turns shooting each other in the head while both wore a Kevlar helmet for protection, using a rifle inside a house. Authorities expressed disbelief at the reckless nature of the situation.

“Hard to believe two, so-called friends, would take turns shooting at each other wearing a Kevlar helmet inside a house in a residential neighborhood,” said Harris County Sheriff Ed Harris.

Arrest and Previous Legal Trouble

Odonnell was taken into custody on August 21, just days before the murder charge was officially filed. Jail records indicate that he had a previous DUI arrest but didn’t appear to have legal representation in the current case at the time of writing.

Conclusion

The shocking nature of the incident has left both authorities and the public struggling to comprehend how two friends could engage in such dangerous and reckless behavior. Odonnell is currently being held in connection with Prout’s death, while further legal proceedings unfold.
