Incident Overview

Police were dispatched around 5 a.m. Wednesday to a home in Universal City for a reported disturbance. According to a police affidavit, the child’s father, Eseosa Ehanire, a local police officer, stated that his wife had stabbed their son.

When officers arrived, they reportedly found Medina on the bed, covered in blood, while Ehanire tried to restrain her by grabbing her leg. The scene was described as devastating by Universal City police detective David Fawcett, who said,

“I don’t think that anything could have prepared our first responders of the city for what they saw. It was devastating.”

Struggle with the Suspect

While officers attempted to secure the residence, Medina reportedly went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and stabbed her own leg. Officers were able to eventually disarm her after a struggle. During the confrontation, she allegedly said,

“I cannot live without him” and “let me die.”

Ehanire told investigators that he had returned home after a night shift, went to the bathroom, and then heard a scream from the bedroom. Upon trying to enter, he found the door locked, prompting him to force entry.

Inside, he found Medina on top of their son, holding a knife. A struggle ensued, during which she stabbed herself and attempted to attack her husband. Medina reportedly told him,

“This is what you want.”

Ehanire managed to drag his wife away from the child and then called police for help.

When speaking to authorities, Medina reportedly made paranoid comments, claiming that people were trying to enter her home and that she was being followed. These statements are under review as part of the ongoing investigation.
