Southwest Virginia Braces for Off-and-On Showers This Weekend, More Storms by Tuesday

Blacksburg, Va– This weekend in Blacksburg will be cloudy with light rain and persistent patchy fog. This will keep the roads wet and visibility low through Sunday. Sometimes it might drizzle, which could slow down travel, especially in the mornings. On Monday, it will be warmer and sunnier, which will be a short relief.

The National Weather Service says there will be light fog and spotty rain on Saturday morning and again late Sunday. The temperature will stay in the low 70s. Light rain is expected to stay in the area, but drivers should be aware that roads near Virginia Tech and along US-460 may become slippery and visibility may be low. Early in the morning could be the best time for patchy fog, especially in valleys and near creeks.

Monday’s showers will end, but there is a 30% chance of thunderstorms by Tuesday afternoon. That chance will rise to 50% Tuesday night and during the middle of the week. Plans to be outside might not work out as planned because of the lightning risk and the chance of light flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday. People are told to charge their phones, clear out storm drains, and plan for extra travel time if the rain gets worse.

The next round of stormy weather is likely to last until Wednesday, and more advisories could be issued if it rains more.
