San Diego, CA – A dangerous heat wave is gripping inland Southern California, with temperatures expected to surge to 106°F in the Inland Empire and over 100°F in parts of San Diego County through Friday night, according to forecasters.
Heat Advisories Issued Across Inland Areas
The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued heat advisories for interior zones of San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange counties, effective until 8 p.m. Friday. Forecasters warn that Thursday will be the most intense, especially for communities east of I-15.
City-by-City Forecast: Inland Empire and San Diego Region
In the Inland Empire, cities like Corona, Ontario, Moreno Valley, and Rancho Cucamonga are expected to experience daily highs between 104°F and 106°F. Meanwhile, Escondido, El Cajon, Poway, and San Marcos will likely reach up to 102°F.
Mountain towns such as Julian and Idyllwild may also see 90s to low 100s, making it unusually hot for higher elevations.
Orange County Foothills and Valleys to Remain Hot
In the Santa Ana foothills and interior Orange County—including Irvine, Anaheim, and Garden Grove—temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 90s, with little overnight relief expected. The persistent heat can be especially dangerous for seniors, children, and pets.
Health Risks and Safety Warnings
Officials are urging residents to take extreme precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. Recommendations include:
- Staying in air-conditioned environments
- Drinking plenty of water
- Avoiding outdoor activity during afternoon peak hours
- Wearing light clothing and seeking shade when outdoors
“Car interiors can become deadly within minutes,” the NWS warned. “Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles—even for a short time.”
Heat Advisory Could Extend Into the Weekend
If elevated temperatures persist, heat advisories may be extended into the weekend, especially for inland communities. Local emergency services are on alert, and cooling centers may open if necessary.
